Jacquleine Van Starkenburg completed a diploma in early childhood care and education at Mount Royal University. She then went on to complete a Bachelor in child studies through Mount Royal University. Through Yorkville University she completed her Master of Art in Counselling Psychology. Jacqueline is registered as a provisional psychologist through the College of Alberta Psychologists.
Jacqueline started her career working with special needs children as a behavioural strategist, she then went on to work with youth in group care. Most of her career has been in child intervention with a speciality in family violence work. Jacqueline has a good understanding of child development, complex family issues, abuse, and trauma.
When not at work, Jacqueline enjoys spending time with her three children, husband, and giant dog. Whether it be camping, skiing, playing in the water, or staying cosy at home.
Having a passion for giving clients a voice, Jacqueline has a gentle and encouraging approach. Starting therapy can be scary and difficult, and it can be a place for healing, growth, and can even be fun. Jacqueline, uses a variety of modalities that best suit the needs of her clients and works from a trauma informed and attachment-based lens. Offering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Therapeutic Play, Solution Focused strategies, Strengths Based, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). She is open to working with children, youth, families, and adults for a variety of issues such as bullying, divorce, abuse, self-esteem issues, family violence, grief/loss, anxiety, self-harm, behavioural issues, identity issues, and depression. Being highly collaborative she offers an “we are in this together” approach. She looks forward to hearing from you and starting this journey with you.
